Water Security Program delivers cisterns and water tanks

Another action by Qair Brazil with the communities to score points is related to water security. With the objective of promoting sustainable development, we understand that it is necessary to balance social, economic development and environmental sustainability.

And in Northeast Brazil, where the Qair group operates, access to water is one of the main limitations for this scenario. However, we believe that it is possible to improve the living conditions of families, generate income and expand agricultural production in the semiarid region, through the use of sustainable technologies.

Therefore, we developed a Water Security project with the Local Economic Development Agency (Adel). Among the activities, we carry out a feasibility diagnosis of the water and technologies existing in the communities. We raise alternative solutions for water resources for consumption and production; we promote exchanges with community leaders; we installed social technologies and held workshops on water resource management for water supply and irrigation.

The action is part of an adaptation strategy to reduce the impact of drought on the poorest population in the northeast region, in the Brazilian semi-arid region. Among the technologies worked on, we highlight the construction of cisterns for water storage, drilling of deep wells, recovery of artesian wells and workshops with families on sustainable production and water management and use, developed in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

Among the actions developed are the revitalization of more than 40 cisterns with 16 thousand liters of water with an installed storage capacity ranging from 240 to 320 thousand liters/year of drinking water; the construction of 5 high reservoirs with installed capacity for storage ranging from 15 to 30 thousand liters/day; we revitalized several deep wells with a capacity ranging from 40 to 70 thousand liters/day; and we still have the water distribution network for the domestic use of families in progress. All this work was distributed in various communities. More than 300 families benefited, that is, more than 1000 people affected, from the municipalities of Afonso Bezerra, Alto do Rodrigues, PendĂȘncias and Macau, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

The impact of social technologies of access to water on the lives of residents of rural communities is immense. Their implementation not only provides access to drinking water for human consumption, but also boosts the food and nutrition security of families.

Another action by Qair to make a difference in people’s lives.
